Physics lab:-
Engineering Physics lab is well-equipped and
enables students to understand the fundamentals of
engineering Physics. Although this lab is a corequisite to
engineering Physics, the experiments discussed are not necessarily
exactly those discussed in
lecture.
This
lab provides general background knowledge of how experimental work
is actually done. Students will learn how to use equipment such as
multimeters, spectrometers, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes
among others. They will know how to measure various properties of
electronic circuits and optical systems which explore practical
skills. Secondly, it will also help you see that all the conjectures
and calculations that you learn about in lecture do describe events
in the real world; they will quantitatively verify some of the
formulas derived in the lecture .
The format for engineering physics lab has
been designed for a 1 hour classroom period immediately followed by
a two hour laboratory. Students will complete the experiment in the
laboratory and have one hour to complete their lab worksheet. It is
vital for students to read their lab manual prior to
lab.

Engineering chemistry
lab:
The department of
chemistry has an impressive range of equipment in its laboratory.
The lab is aptly prepared to impart education in chemistry in a
neatly designed, spacious and well - ventilated laboratory occupying
an area of 100 Sq Mt with a capacity to accommodate 30
students. The lab is aesthetically designed with granite
tables, separate balance room and chemical store
room.
The worktables in the Chemistry laboratory are
connected with concealed electric wiring, LP Gas and water pipe
lines. The laboratory is sufficiently ventilated and has adequate
safety measures against risks. It is equipped with
potentiometer, Digital Conductivity meter, Oswald viscometer,
Electronic, Digital Weighing balances, pH meters, Electric water
bath and Hot air-oven.
The
chemistry lab enables students about basic chemical laboratory
techniques, and helps students learn to apply fundamental chemical
concepts in solving chemical problems in the
laboratory.
This lab provides an introduction to basic
laboratory experiments and techniques in the areas of calorimetry,
kinetics, equilibrium, quantitative analysis and Electro-chemistry.
Students are required to study the lab procedure for that week in
advance. Preparedness for lab will be evaluated via a viva
administered at the beginning of each meeting. Following the viva,
the instructor will discuss the chemical and physical concepts
behind the lab session. The students will then execute the lab
procedure, working in pairs when possible. Observations and data
will be recorded in the notebook. Complete lab entries will be
written based on the data collected. A complete lab notebook entry
will also include pre-lab and post-lab questions from the textbook
for that experiment.
It provides students with a practical approach
towards the various chemicals and regents used in engineering
application. Practical awareness is inculcated and students are
trained both quantitatively and qualitatively during the lab
sessions so that their understanding and problem solving
abilities can been enhanced.

ENGLISH
LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION SKILLS LABORATORY:
The truth is that even though our students
score high marks in their examinations, they are ill-equipped to
articulate well in English. Researches have shown that inadequate
exposure to authentic spoken English is one of the major reasons for
the students’ hesitancy and inhibition. This becomes a major
handicap to them when they face a competitive world where English
assumes the status of the lingua franca. The language laboratory
course is a modest attempt to address the need.
The course and the appending multimedia
content is intended to fulfill the felt need for appropriate course
material for teaching and learning English. The approach followed is
highly flexible with significant emphasis on teacher as well as
learner support.
SBIT is the first institution to introduce
the English language laboratory at the first year level in the year
2003 and this has brought about a sea change in the academic field
at the university level, which resulted in the establishment of
English language laboratory in all the JNTU affiliated engineering
colleges.
The English communication skills
laboratory includes
1. Phonetics laboratory
2. Communications skills
laboratory
The phonetics laboratory enables the
students to hear model pronunciations of English and to record and
hear their own voices as they engage in pattern drills. It creates
ideal conditions for students learning independently. The
audiovisual method makes it possible for students to master the
speech habits of a foreign language like English. The apparatus in
the language laboratory includes licensed software from e-tail
networks limited, Kochi, audio-visual equipment, record players,
video-cam and microphone & head set installed at each student’s
computer. It also permits the teacher to perform the following
tasks: to organize and control the independent work of each student
by means of individual instruction; to conduct several courses of
study at the same time for different groups of students.
The communication skills laboratory is
designed exclusively for the B-Town students to address their
problems related to communication. The pairing activities, group
discussions, situation analysis, debates etc are aimed at developing
the conversational, negotiating and inter-personal skills of the
students. The laboratory tools help to pair off students for
dialogues and to take part in their conversation; to record and play
back the speech of the students; and to comment on tape recordings,
slides, and films.
We proudly acknowledge the efforts of our
faculty who could bring the best out of Language Laboratory. SBIT
stands out as a model college when it comes to handling the language
lab course & this is proved through the excellent communication
skills exhibited by the first year students on par with the students
in the cities.
We reiterate that it is not always the
infrastructure but the effective use of the course by the faculty
that makes all the difference.
Advanced
English communication skills laboratory:
The growing significance of English not
just as a language but as a vital factor in employability resulted
in the establishment of Advanced English Communication Skills
Laboratory.
Licensed software from K-VAN solutions,
Hyderabad was purchased for the lab. However the product was not
accepted as it is available in the market the principal and the
faculty took extra care in developing custom-made AECS software for
SBIT & thus numerous activities, language games, puzzles were
made available to the students so that the entire package
transformed into an exciting and interesting learning
material.
Fighting the boredom which is commonly
associated with learning, the software turned to be so enthralling
that even after the completion of their course in III Year many
students come back to the lab again and again in their free time to
enhance their language and interpersonal skills. Thus we have been
successful in igniting their learn-ability by
avoiding typical classroom monotony, shunning passive learning
attitude and facilitating self-learning
ability.
